Mail Carrier Holiday Treats & Printable

December 18, 2016 in Holidays, Motherhood - 2 Comments
The men and women who bring cards and packages to our doorstep during the holiday season work incredibly hard. One small way we like to say “thanks” for their efforts is by providing them with treats throughout the month of December. Read on to learn more about our tradition and snag a free printable to create a treat bin for your front porch.
I have seen a few of these mail carrier treat bins over the past few years.  Each year I find myself thinking, “Gee, what a wonderful idea! I should do that.”And then low and behold, the seasonal busy-ness gets the best of me, and I don’t get around to it.
This year, as I saw another one come across my Pinterest feed, I told myself – no excuses. It is not hard to buy a few delicious snacks, draw up a sign and stick it out on our front porch. And I was exactly right. It took less than 20 minutes (minus the grocery part which I already needed to do for the week), and it will hopefully serve to bring just a little joy to the many men and women busily bringing packages day-in and day-out to avid online shoppers such as myself this holiday season.

The Setup

For our treat set up, I use a potted planter stand and set a large bowl on top. This seems to work well for us as it keeps the snacks up off of the ground and makes it more accessible for those stopping by. A small table, bench or chair with a bowl or basket on top would work well too.

The sign

After setting up our bowl, I attach the sign you see pictured as both a “thank you ” note to our mail carriers as well as a way to let them know they are welcome to grab a snack on us.

Grab a free copy of the sign for you porch here.

The Snacks

Depending on your climate, just about any packaged item will work for your bin. Here are just a few ideas to start with:
  • small bags of chips, popcorn or crackers
  • fruit & nut bars/granola bars
  • fruit snacks
  • nuts
  • chocolate bars
  • water or juice boxes (if you live where it tends to stay about freezing)
I’ll admit, I’m pretty jazzed to set out our little treat basket over these next few weeks to bless our mail carriers as the holiday craziness reaches it’s maximum speed. I would encourage you all to do so as well. Don’t be like former me and think how nice it would be to do –  just do it!  I’d love to see what you come up with so feel free to post a photo to inspire others, and tag me @happyhealthycasa.
Happy holidays!
