Creating a Safe Halloween for All

October 29, 2018 in Holidays - 2 Comments

As a health conscious parent of a 2-year-old that is just beginning to understand and enjoy the spirit of Halloween as well as a former teacher who understands the wide variety of allergies that many children face on the daily, I have begun putting a much greater deal of thought into what types of “goodies” to share with our fellow trick-or-treaters. I want to ensure that what we are passing out is inclusive to kids with allergies, kids whose families seek to limit sugar and all kids who are just out looking to have a wonderful time while collecting a variety of fun things along the way.

That being said, this year we purchased a variety of dollar store Halloween themed goodies – everything from pencils and erasers to eye balls and spider rings and have them ready to go in our teal pumpkin bucket (read more about the significance of this here). I also created the little door sign you see pictured above highlighting that we are a safe place to visit for all families in our neighborhood. I made the one pictured specifically with our “non-edible” treats in mind, but also created an alternative one for those who intend on passing out safe edible goodies to all their friends.

In the future, I look forward to gathering a variety of other “safe for all” goodies for the season. In the meantime, if you are looking for ideas, I have compiled a list of some of my favorites below:
