Healthy Holiday Food for Kids

This post was written in collaboration with Kiddobloom, however, all opinions are my own.

You all know I love being creative. If you’ve been following along with our family for any length of time, you also know I love me a good nutrient dense meal or snack. So when the holidays come around, and I have a festive reason to combine these two passions of mine – you better believe I’m all in. While I’ve included a full day’s worth of ideas here, you could certainly do them across a variety of days throughout the season. Feel free to pair your favorite holiday songs, activities and books alongside them as well!

Breakfast: Reindeer Waffles

I used our favorite Kitchfix Grain-Free Waffles for Rudolph, here, and created his features with an assortment of fruit we had on hand, including his delightful “date” antlers. I coupled it with steamed broccoli & hummus w/ paprika and some scrambled eggs on the side.

Morning Snack: Colors of the Season Smoothie Bowl

Smoothie bowls are one of my favorites to pack in a lot of “punch” around here, and there are endless possibilities for what you throw in them. To get the green color pictured here, I tossed the following in our blender: Banana, Mango, Pineapple, Coconut Yogurt, Coconut Milk, Spinach, Spirulina and Bone Broth Protein Powder. I then topped off Asher’s toddler-sized, Kiddobloom bowl with some granola & hemp hearts for some added crunch and strawberries for some added color.

Lunch: Snowman “Sandwich”

Alright, so I’ll admit this one is more of an open-faced tortilla, but you get the drift. For the snowman, I cut circles out of our Siete Foods Grain Free Tortillas and added a thin layer of hummus to the top of each one. I then used a combo of snap peas, carrots and raisins for Frosty’s remaining body parts. The sides included sliced kiwi and seasoned sweet potatoes.

Afternoon Snack: Grinch Guac

I think Asher was actually a little unsure of this one when I set it in front of him, but that only served to prove that my “Grinch” looked like a “mean one”, right? And after a few moments of analyzing it, he set to devouring every last bite of his grumpy, green face. I coupled this one with plantain chips and raw carrots for dipping.

Dinner: Baby Jesus in a “Blanket”

For this one, I wrapped an Applegate Grass-Fed Hot Dog in a small section of our Siete Foods Grain Free Tortillas. I laid our baby Jesus on a bed of turmeric cauliflower rice and created the stable out of some baked yucca fries. The Christmas Star that topped it off was created with thin slices of pineapple (namely because I didn’t think I was talented enough to try and cut an actual star – but if you have a small cookie cutter on hand, that may work even better). The sides were simple for this Nativity themed plate, with just a few apples and cucumbers to finish the meal.

To say I enjoyed crafting this food “art” would be an understatement, but I’ll admit, what I loved equally as much was being able to put all of these creations on our new, stainless steel, children’s dish ware from Kiddobloom so that what Asher was eating off of was just as healthy for him as what he was eating.
