My Daily Essential oil Routine

July 1, 2019 in Essential Oils - No Comments

Over this past year or so, I have incorporated more and more essentials oils into my daily routine. In doing so, not only have I become more comfortable using them, but have also come to love the benefits I’ve seen them on have on my family more and more. I’ll admit when I first jumped into this world of oils, I felt a little overwhelmed by all of the possibilities. But I have taken it one day at a time, and learned slowly but surely how to use them to support my health and replace many a household product. That said, one of the best ways I have found to learn about oils on my own journey is simply in seeing how others use them in their daily lives. So I thought today I would do a little recap of just a typical day in our household for all of you focusing in on just that – how we use our essential oils throughout the day.

Prior to reading, please note that I am sharing about a typical day in OUR home. This is a routine that works for us, and one that I feel comfortable using. I would encourage anyone to do their own research prior to using oils with your family so that you feel most comfortable in the choices you make in your own home.

How to use essential oils throughout the day

6:15am Wake Up/Morning Routine: My morning routine generally consists of the following:

Brushing my teeth with Thieves Aromabright ToothpasteThieves Essential Oil is a little immune support and cleansing powerhouse. In addition to being an oil our family uses for these purposes, it is also used in a variety of Young Living products which we use on the daily – toothpaste being one of them! It contains a combination of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary oils and makes for a nice spicy, rich toothpaste taste.

Applying Endoflex Vitality Oil to the thyroid region of my neck – I like to stick an Aroma Glide Roller Fitment right on the bottle of this one to make it easier to apply. Endoflex is a blend of Sage, Geranium, Myrtle, Nutmeg, and German Chamomile and supports the endocrine system.

Applying Stress Away to my wrists – Stress Away is another oil that works wonders with a roller ball top. This one contains calming oils like Copaiba, Lavender and Cedarwood with hints of Vanilla and Lime, and I find it to be a refreshing one to use to start the day on a positive note.

6:30am Morning Quiet Time: I like to give myself at least 30 minutes of quiet time each morning before Asher wakes up. Most days during that time, I love drinking a warm glass of water with Lemon Vitality Oil to support my digestion and hydrate my body as I begin by day.

Thieves Fruit and Veggie Soak

7:30am Breakfast: To clean our produce on the daily, I use our Thieves Fruit and Veggie Soak to wash away the dirt and grime that may be leftover on any of it before we consume it. I just toss a tablespoon or two into a large bowl, add in the produce and fill it with water until covered. I let them soak for a few minutes then remove, rinse, and voila – ready to eat!

8:30am Shower: While showering I wash my face with my Orange Blossom Charcoal Bar Soap. Its made with skin-purifying activated charcoal and and Orange Blossom Essential Oil blend. This same oil blend is in the Orange Blossom Moisturizer that I apply to my face after my shower.

If its a day where I feel the need to “do my face”, the majority of my products are from the Savvy Minerals line. Makeup can be one of the biggest culprits for containing toxic ingredients that can impact our skin and overall health. I love that everything in this line from my foundation to my mascara is made with clean, naturally-derived ingredients and pure essential oils.

Young Living Mineral Sunscreen Lotion

9:30am Outdoor Play: We make it a point to get outdoors as much as possible over here each day. When I can, I work to avoid peak sun hours and follow these tips I’ve laid out in my post on How to Protect your Skin from the Sun Naturally, but when it’s needed, we love the Young Living Mineral Sunscreen Lotion. Not only is it chemical free, but it’s non-greasy and yes, it even contains some incredible skin support oils like Lavender and Helichrysum.

12:00pm Naptime: While I use nap time to get work done most days, I love to create a calm space as much as possible in order to do so. Somedays I do this by rolling my Tranquil Roll-On on the back of neck and wrists, or sometimes I will diffuse oils like Lavender, Cedarwood or Sacred Mountain in my living room as I knock items off my to-do list.

2:30pm Snack & Sensory Play: Oftentimes we will use the oils that are part of the Vitality Line (those that can be used in food or as dietary supplements) to create fun snacks like smoothies, protein balls and, most recently, popsicles as well. Another way I like to incorporate oils throughout our afternoon is by using them as part of sensory play – think a “Lavender” water table or play dough experience, for instance. For more ideas along these lines, check out my post on 5 Ways to Use Essential Oils with Kids.

3:30pm Outing: Most afternoons we will head out for some type of an outing – be it a playdate, a trip to the YMCA etc. Two things I always bring with me on our afternoon adventures are Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier and KidScents Owie Oil. I like to be as prepared as I can for all the germs and tumbles that come along with having a three-year-old.

6pm Dinner: I keep the majority of my Vitality Oils on my spice rack. I love using them to create fruity, citrus diffuser blends in the kitchen while making dinner or to add a little extra flavor to what we are cooking.

We also love our Thieves Dish Soap for hand washing dirty dishes, the Thieves Automatic Dishwasher Powder for those that go in the dishwasher and our Thieves Cleaner for wiping down countertops, tables and appliances after our meal is finished.

7:00pm Asher’s Bedtime: We place a few drops of SleepyIze oil into Asher’s diffuser to promote a restful environment in his bedroom most evenings. SleepyIze is part of Young Living’s KidScents line of oils created especially for children and is prediluted with their needs in mind.

8:00pm Evening Kid-Free Time: This is the time of the day where I do a combo of finishing up work, unwinding and spending time with my spouse. So depending upon the mood I am going for, I will change out what I put in my diffuser.

Here are some blends I am loving lately:

For Focus: 2 drops Peppermint, 2 drops Orange, 2 drops Frankincense

For Romance: 2 drops Bergamot, 2 drops Patchouli, 2 drops Ylang Ylang

For Unwinding: 3 drops Valor, 2 Drops Cedarwood

Young Living Romance Oil Blend

10:00pm Nighttime Routine: Similar to my morning routine, I brush my teeth again with my Thieves Aromabright Toothpaste. I then floss with Thieves Dental Floss and rinse my mouth with Thieves Fresh Essence Plus Mouthwash, which is free from alcohol, synthetic dyes and artificial flavors that can be found in many brands on store shelves.

I also apply a facial astringent prior to bed to support my skin that I put together in a roller ball using the following ingredients: 8 drops Lavender, 8 drops Frankincense, 4 drops Lemon, a splash of Witch Hazel (alcohol free & unscented) and fill the rest with water.

10:15pm Bedtime: Peace and Calming, Peace and Calming II and Valerian are my three besties at bedtime. I don’t know that I could pick a favorite, so we generally just rotate through these to help promote a restful night’s sleep.

So there you have it! While every day certainly looks a little different, this is more or less how we incorporate essential oils throughout our day on the regular. The best part about using our oils and oil infused-products is that not only are they something we can use as part of a daily routine, but they are also available to us when we have specific needs or seasons that arise in our home as well. I’ve come to love learning more about their uses and knowing that the possibilities with them are truly endless.

What about you? How do you use oils in your home?
